Online commencement celebration honors Classes of 20202 min read
Ann Arbor, Mich., May 8, 2020 – The School of Dentistry created an online Commencement Celebration for the Classes of 2020 since the coronavirus pandemic prevented the traditional in-person graduation ceremonies this spring.
The online presentation includes numerous videos, written messages, photo slideshows and other elements, including the traditional graduation recessional music. Dean Laurie McCauley provides welcoming remarks, followed by a message to graduates from guest speaker Rear Admiral Timothy Ricks, Chief Dental Officer of the U.S. Public Health Service.
Other highlights include a message from Dental Hygiene class president Allison Carron; a letter from Dental Hygiene Faculty Award winner Sheree Duff; a message from Rita Maizy, president of the DDS Class of 2020; a letter from Larry Salzmann, selected by the senior DDS class as the Paul Gibbons Faculty Award recipient; slideshows with photos of graduating students in each of the DH, DDS and MS/PhD programs; class members reciting the Dental Hygiene Pledge and Dentist’s Pledge; and a downloadable printed program listing all the 2020 graduates and their specific programs, honors and awards.
